Gospel Circles (1) – (a) Mark}[13th July 1989]

[Redbook6:151][19890713:1847g]{Gospel Circles (1) – (a) Mark}[13th July 1989]

[continued]

There is a strong inner and outer contra-rotating circle pattern, previously noted,* revealed in the beginning and end of Jesus’ mission as shown in all the Gospels. In addition Mark’s Gospel,** which most scholars apparently now believe to be the most ancient surviving, shows an outer circle pattern continuing throughout his life, with the two miracles of the loaves and fishes, and Peter’s declaration of faith, at the mid-point:

c.Mark 1-4 the first quarter is dominated by cures and [by] arguments with Scribes and Pharisees (CAS: Doctors, Lawyers);

c.Mark 4-8 the second quarter is dominated by agricultural parables,** swine[,] & loaves;

c.Mark 8-12 the third quarter prophesies the crucifixion and resurrection, warns of the dangers of riches, advises renunciation, and leads up to the fourth;

c.Mark 13-16 the last quarter prophesies the destruction of Jerusalem / the coming of the Son of Man, relates the anointing at Bethany and the institution of the Eucharist, and completes the outer circle with the Crucifixion and Resurrection exactly where they should be.
