It is interesting that not long before this* [W] had sat with me in [...]** my study, and I had thought that she had never looked more beautiful: a face transformed by an inner serenity like a glow within the skin, accentuating the high cheek bones and curling golden hair which remind me more of the G~ than of the R~ Degree and Type. When I told her, of course, she became self-conscious and pulled faces.

Earlier on still, I had wondered whether the sharper sense of smell*** would be followed by a brighter light (but was confused by having replaced a 60W[att] with a 100W[att] [light] bulb!).
