I think I have toyed with this idea before, both at C*** and at M~**** (as an alternative), but it does have disadvantages. On the whole, I think I prefer the conventional ‘railway junction’ pattern of intersections:

– even though the exact layout remains slightly unclear.

– although it is also perfectly possible to have just one Circle with an outside and an inside:
