[continued]

Consideration of the two patterns together* threw a completely new light on the application and inter-relationship of the two Circles in the development of the Individual – from having seemed to describe impersonal forces operating at many levels, they became something which the Individual himself could hope to influence through understanding and modification of his own behaviour. This seemed to be supported by the results of statistical surveys of the incidence of birth-dates in certain professions, and in schizophrenia, as reported in The Times: particularly exciting because it seemed more 'objective'.

Obviously I wondered what it was all about: was I unconsciously using older symbols (Zodiac, [Tarot] Cards etc.) to develop and formalise patterns perceived directly, to which they had no direct relationship? Or was I gradually uncovering what many have suspected (and others, for all I know, may have confirmed) that these are records of an 'ancient wisdom' concerning such patterns, perceived long ago? In one sense, the answer is irrelevant, since 'ancient wisdom' may be in error, and modern knowledge, as hypothesis or theory (?) must be tested by experimental and/or intellectual methods.
