Circle of Qualities}[20th

[continued]
If
the interpretations or qualities of the finer levels seem unhelpful,
it must be remembered that they deal in Qualities of which we are
likely to have no direct experience.
I
very much doubt whether colours (or even light) represent exactly
what is to be known at the level called 'lights': it is simply an
analogy or symbol, but one sufficiently appropriate to find echoes at
many levels of the Mind.
It
is possible that the level called 'Wheels' has something to do with
mathematics, {or} dimensionality or directionality.
In
the next two levels – Names and Degrees* – the names of the
Qualities have some meaning but it is extremely difficult to pin the
meaning down or apply it to the matter in hand.
It
is only at the next level – Inner** Principles – that the
Qualities become clearly comprehensible, at least on first sight; and
so they are in the remaining four: Gifts, Virtues, Vices, and Outer**
Principles – probably more so the less 'fine' they become.
*=
Ranks (so as not to confuse Degrees with Wheels) (Degrees sounds
better than Ranks but I can't find another label at present. <871123>
This
side of things is now completely changed – see S&C [original
full paper version].

reversed.]
