The underlined qualities are presumed to be particularly significant in each column (and row?) – arrived at basically by applying the Circle progression to the categories of quality, to give a kind of spiral pattern#. Curiously, this seems to pick out in each column the only one (or possibly, in some cases, one of two – I have marked the other [as shown here, with a short underline] which necessarily tends to act upon the World outside itself, i.e. that is outward-looking (For Sloth, being a Vice, the equivalent is (a double) negative – a tendency to refrain from acting upon the World outside itself). (Maths is rather beyond me, but I was thinking of – vectors? – e.g. the bracing effect of diagonal struts: #*. The first two columns – 'Lights' and 'Wheels' – are somewhat speculative#** at this stage. It is curious that Azrael ends up dominating the Inner Circle principles, and Raphael the Outer Circle – one would have expected it to be the other way round;#*** but then, the polarity between these two has always been a bit of a puzzle. The very last#**** (and complete) column/row is likely to be confused.
