{[The Dynamic Independence of Angels [continued]] -- Good Spirits, evil spirits, and Men}[5th October 1987]

The distinction between 'Good Spirits' (Angels) and 'Evil Spirits' (Moods) is more sharply drawn:* evil spirits are controlled by the Self, and have no quality of dynamic independence, despite appearances; Angels are controlled by the Spirit, and do.

Nevertheless as the Spirit of God, Angels and Men is the same One Spirit, there is a strong link between the state of a Man and the behaviour, in relation to him, of the Angels. In psychological terms, it might be helpful to say that as evil spirits arise in response to the Self, so good or Angelic Spirits arrive in response to the Unself: not the Unconscious, I think, as the hideous symbolic forms of evil spirits tend to arise in unconscious parts of the mind. 'The Unconscious' is too wide a description: 'The Self' should not be confused with 'The Conscious Mind'.

Innumerable Angels are allowed for: on and between the Cardinal and Diagonal Archetypes by infinitely small degrees**; and Angels may work together, or, for a time and place, for a purpose, intermingle, or even fuse.

Their radial distance from Centre Point is more complicated in [its] effect, and has to do I think with their own level of operation and the level (or Circle) of the Man*** within whose awareness the Quality appears.
