If, however, it should be possible to show conclusively that an Individual could not possibly ever again have Conscience – could not possibly recognise the Spirit, by the Spirit – has, perhaps, physically no brain at all[,] sufficient to perform the higher functions – then I should guess that the Individual could be considered as no more than an Animal, and treated accordingly. But it should be a hard proof.
