[Redbook7:185][19900802:2155]{Dream: Of a military expedition}[2nd August 1990]
19900802.2155
I really did think there was a sufficient danger of Iraq actually invading Kuwait:* mainly because of Saddam Hussein’s personality. So it is perhaps not surprising that last night I dreamt of columns or circles of aircraft coming together and merging into one circle or column** which then set off together – I thought for the Queen Mum’s birthday.*** ****Next, 3 thin, finned rockets flew towards us: we were excited at first, then realised they were dangerous; one in fact, on landing near us, exploded with great force.
That night, of course, was the night of the invasion.*
*[which happened on 2nd to 4th August 1990, starting at about 2am local time, which is in a time zone 3(?) hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (but 2(?) hours ahead of British Summer Time)]
**The Coalition forces defending Kuwait/attacking Iraq? <910210>
***[Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother of the United Kingdom was born on 4th August 1900 (& died on 9th April 2002)]
****This next is a remarkable accurate description of attack by Scuds# &#* particularly by the slower-moving, lower-flying Cruise missiles whose arrival in Baghdad#** has been captured on TV film – but whose use (& that of the Scuds) had not, I think, been discussed at the time [of this journal entry]. <910210>
#[which Iraq launched against Israel and against the Coalition forces in Saudi Arabia during the counter-invasion period from January 1991, but is not recorded as having used in its original invasion of Kuwait in 1990]
#*[sic]
#**[presumably as part of the counter-invasion by the coalition forces]
