The relative patterns of diagonal and cardinal* can be unpicked from the C[ircles] A[nalysis &] S[ynthesis] pattern:
I tend to think of the diagonal cross, and the square in which it resides, as being more representative of the O[uter] C[ircle], and the square cross and the diamond *** as **** the I[nner] C[ircle]. But not everyone would agree.
