{The Invisible Cards [continued(4)]}[10th July 1987]

The two cards* would have no number, as they are of equal status.

It is tempting to place them numerically between [T]I and [T]II – or perhaps between [T]0 and [T]I, justifying more precisely their lack of number – but which would come first?

Perhaps their numbers are letters: If 0 (not actually shown as a number on the Fool's card) is the near invisible " י ”, **a “wisp of an apostrophe” (the Hebrew letter Yod), representing Emanation, and the Divine Purpose; 1 of the Magician may be taken to not only One in the number series 1-21 but also (and exactly) “ ו " (Vav), the third letter of the Name of God, representing Formation, and (E)Motion; which leaves the 'numbers' of both invisible cards as ה (He), the 2nd and 4th letters of the Divine Name, representing, on the one hand, Creation and intelligence***; and on the other hand, Making and Action.

The beauty of this analysis from the Kaballah is, of course, that as the two “ה"s are interchangeable the circle can go either way round.**** This 'Creation' name of God, JHVH or Jahweh/Jehovah, is, like Creation itself, incomplete until ended with its initial letter repeated, albeit perhaps in a subtly modified form; but we shall not be around to see that, at least corporeally.

By what I presume is coincidence, the Greek letter π has been taken as the infinite number arising out of (?) the mathematical properties of the circle.

[In the ms., the diagram shows the arrows as curved, 8 making up 2 concentric circles, the final arrow on each side (represented by those marked # here) being dashed not solid. None of this seems to be possible with the fonts permitted by Blogger. Not that I'm ungrateful or anything....]
