My mother came to stay for the 2^nd time from 19^th to 23^rd October. We also had friends to stay from 4^th to 10^th October;* and from 27^th October [d] (& from 28^th October [W]) was at home all day for half-term – until this morning**(2 children are much, much more than twice as noisy as one).

My mother’s visit cast a short shadow before it – and a longer one after it. This is apparent in this journal.*** <891106>
