This explanation* of the Soul allows for cases of mental retardation – the Soul, like the brain, never grows up – and also for catastrophic loss of memory, personality and brain function in cases where individuality may or may not still be partially recognisable. Whether, in the latter case, the surviving Soul retains records of pre-catastrophe personality and memory, or is lost with the physical structure, is a question which I cannot answer, as it relates to the nature of Time itself; all I can say is that if the Soul is recorded non-physically (as I suggest it is),** and Time is a property within the Physical Universe (as I think it is),*** there is no reason in principle why the Souls should not record whatever has been of personality and memory,**** as well as what exists at the moment of Death in the physical structure of the Brain; and I very much hope that this is what in fact happens, as the Design would otherwise seem exceptionally heartless.
