{The Gifts of the Spirit (2)}[12th July 1987]

[Redbook4:45][19870712:1840d]{The Gifts of the Spirit (2)}[12th July 1987]

[continued]

The 7 Gifts of the Spirit* seem at first sight more rewarding than did the 9 muses (at first sight): the order in Sayers** and Brewer*** was the same, although the names varied slightly, suggesting that the order given is significant. (I cannot find this group in E[ncylopaedia] B[ritannica].)

(but the third eye given by Dante to Prudence (S~) is the third eye of Wisdom (R~).
I suggest it indicates a high state of perception.
cf. xS in Cambridge#

(I~)

& cp. Sophia, Wisdom.
(R~)

(S~)
(cf. +A's character)

Wisdom

Fear of the Lord

(G~)
Understanding

Righteousness (/Piety)
(M~)
cf. +K in [0] & [1] (part!)

(cf. +M's character.)

Counsel

Knowledge

(J~)

(U~)
(?)
cf. xP in Cambridge(!)↑#

Might
(/Fortitude)

(A~)

(cf. +Mk everywhere)

Here the left 3 are not easily differentiated, & Knowledge is unexpected for xL.
(The shape of the group of arrows [in the ms] is accidental.)

(It is not altogether surprising to find attributes displaced sideways by one Archetype – e.g. Fortitude, Justice**** – given the relationship between Cardinal and Diagonal Archetypes and Principles#* – the first Order(s) dominating the second.)

Like the Zorastrian 7, these are not always easily distinguishable from each other; which makes it at once more difficult and easier to fit them!
