I have had to face the fact that a certain amount of hyper-sensitivity, inability to focus inwardly, and frustration is due simply to hangover. I drink alcohol rarely nowadays: when friends stay, as they have recently, they bring alcohol which I weakly* imbibe. I am no longer used to it. Sometimes alcohol can be briefly useful in conversation, but there is always a price to pay. There is really only one answer to this: at the least, not in the home.

I passed one test: [W] asked me to share a can of beer, and I – not feeling at all like it – suggested she keep the other half, and felt rotten about it.** We had apple juice ([d]'s) instead.
