The analyses of R&D* suggest that one should look for really original ideas in the very smallest and the very largest of companies: the very smallest because they may have been formed specifically to follow through such an idea occurring properly, i.e. naturally or intuitively; and the very largest because they may have the resources necessary allow men of genius to work in the conditions appropriate to the exercise of intuition, i.e. inner-driven not outer-led. Middle-sized companies (it is suggested) will tend to be outer-led by the pressures of their business and financial environment. Research agencies may be an exception to this.
