Wotan’s answers to Mim’s 3 questions suggest this slightly different alignment to that for ‘Das Rheingold’*** – not entirely inconsistent, because in a different context. But if gods are at S~ instead of C for this purpose, and giants at M~ instead of S~, where are the Volsungs? If they are perhaps archetypal Men, perhaps their place is at C where all free Individuals start and end – and perhaps that is the true explanation of Wotan’s schizophrenic feeling of love and hatred for Siegmund and Sieglinde.****
