{Retirement Committees}[12th March 1988]

[Redbook5:48][19880312:2005]{Retirement Committees}[12th March 1988]

.2005

I have remarked on the association of committees with the [‘]female[] hemisphere.* It is worth remarking that one other kind of person tends particularly to be co-opted onto committees and to operate with and through them: the retired person; not at all levels, of course, but typically those whose lives and careers have been heavily Outer-circle [sic] in terms of upbringing, professional training, careers, good salaries – and pension plans sufficient to allow early retirement and lots of free time.

The Inner circle [sic] equivalent, for the retired person who has pursued a less Outer-circle [sic] life, is presumably Harmony within the family, and the club.**

So what's the difference between the club and the committee? Well, in theory, the club operates in harmony, having partly at least*** that purpose in mind; and the committee operates by its members wheeling and dealing among themselves to achieve a compromise, in a more or less fragmented way. – In theory; clubs, after all, generally have committees.

[The gender description refers to Circle archetypes; no conclusions should be drawn about individuals. <20180111>]

**{And Action (and Achievement) later in life merging into Harmony (he said hopefully!)}
The point being – I should have added – that these two positions roughly correspond to the appropriate ages on the Life-Cycles.

***[= 'at least partly?' (This journal entry seems particularly weak even on its own terms.)]
