It is worth restating this (in a rather messy diagram) in order to emphasise that everything else is a gloss – to illustrate it in one way or another. This is why a certain amount of mutual contradiction among symbols is not crucial (as it were) – they are, after all, only symbols. Only symbols! As if that resolved anything....

One of the strengths of this diagram* is that it highlights the ambiguous nature, and dangers, of Attraction. After all, with the exception of Anger, all of the seven Vices may be seen as a form of Attraction.***

All these more-or-less corresponding systems* serve
(a) to indicate possible earlier “thought” along the same lines, conscious or unconscious, as a kind of reassurance and confirmation of probable validity**; and
(b) to fill out the bare bones along lines already developing (as with xP in the marginal note on the previous page***).

But it is the bare bones that count: and every symbol must fit in with those principles just as the principles must fit in with with real experience.

The Cardinal principles were, I think, the first part of all this to manifest themselves to me, possibly the Outer Circle ones first****; possibly also along with &/or in the shape of the four Cardinal Archetypes acknowledged to embody them, many years ago; but arising out of a pre-occupation with the pattern# apparently emerging in current events and modern history, particularly of the United Kingdom. It is worth restating these fundamental principles: first, the Cardinals, then (and with less certainty even now) the Diagonals.

The older order of Vices (on p.13)* is pleasing in that almost all of them appear fleetingly or are hinted at in the characters of the corresponding Archetypes in [2]. So, perhaps to a slightly less exclusive extent, do the Virtues. Apparent anomalies might be Sloth, for xS** (although the error which she confesses after her dance [in[2]] is due to lack of forethought, and is uncharacteristic of the other Archetypes); and Hope, for +Mk. This last, however, raises complex and interesting questions as to what +Mk is actually doing; I do not think that Hope is necessarily out of place.*** On Outer Circle (and perhaps Inner?) here, even Faith becomes difficult, and Caritas (Love – for God) has not yet arrived; but Hope is still possible, and can carry you through.****

Somewhere I have picked up the idea of Uriel* or JeRemiel (probably Uriel) as the Destroyer**, but I cannot remember where; nor can I find it in my readings of the last few days. (In looking for which, I discover that Brewer's*** list of 7 Christian Archangels is different from [the Book of] Enoch's!)

**Neither: it is Perseus who is the Destroyer in Ancient Greek (per Huxley, The Dragon), & (Persona) the Mask (& death mask/assumed role) in Etruscan/Latin, i.e. xP with her political role-playing and name-changes is Fragmentation – but also Creation the other way <19870708.0040>
In this respect, [2] remains her book despite the apparent concentration on xS at the end – much as [1] is +K's book (+K at that stage still incorporating xS) despite the concentration, in much of the second half, on +M. <0100> [But as (re)numbered, [1] would appear to be actually +Mk's book, and [2] xS's book....]

I like this one too; in some ways it fits**** even better with the actual characters in [2]. (But note that xS#* seems to identify Satan with Lucifer as seen by Man – but does she explicitly endorse this? The E[ncyclopaedia] B[ritannica] elsewhere describes Lucifer and Satan as interchangeable -- the early Church Fathers having renamed one the other. There is, of course, a close connection between +Mk and xS on the one hand and {+Mk} and xA on the other, so this indeterminacy is probably acceptable).
