Recent observations and arguments concerning methods of work (using selection of information as an example) suggest the following distinction. The executive approach defines its targets and uses these parameters to guide its selection of information. The creative approach scans all information and selects by the innate quality of the item, assessed by 'intuition'. The first method is the method of continuation: since the parameters within which items are available for selection are defined by the logic of the existing local situation, i.e. the set target, innovation is unlikely, but stability is ensured. The second method is the method of innovation: the selection quality of each item is measured against the whole of the Universe as perceived or synthesised by the mind of the selector, allowing intuition or inspiration to make the connection. The target is not consciously defined, so flexibility is retained.
