Some of the necessity for this* kind of Separation – Conical, {(}Plane**{)} or Order Separation [–] comes from the puzzle over where to place Evil in the order of things. The Outer Circle is not wholly evil; nor is A~ wholly evil;*** nor is a position on the Outer Circle at A~ necessarily an indication that the Individual there is evil: but evil is related to both A~ and the Outer Circle, as is Matter: as, indeed, is Separation.

There is a remark in [2], by xS**** I think, to the effect that matter and evil are often confused but are of a different order: hence 'Order Separation'? This, I think, is where the distinction of (for example) the Spiritual Kingdom, the Mental Zone, and the Physical Universe may be drawn. Evil would be found, possibly in the Spiritual Kingdom (although I doubt it strongly),# certainly in the Mental Zone, never in the Physical Universe.#* In the Mental Zone it would, I think, belong predominantly at A~ on the Outer Circle of that plane. Q.E.D..

The material Separation and the Spiritual Separation are intimately linked. For example, just as the transformation of the Universe through Time produces natural disasters causing great physical suffering and mental anguish to Mankind; so the Separation of the Spiritual Kingdom gives rise in its extremities to evil thoughts and evil actions which also cause physical and mental suffering, and spiritual anguish, to Men: and there is an overlapping area of man-made disasters without apparent evil motive, but which often arise out of the effect on the material Separation of the extreme Spiritual Separation known as Evil. But just as the physical Separation transforms in the end to a different state of Unity; so also the Spiritual Separation is necessary for a transformation, in the End, to a different state of Unity of the Spiritual Kingdom.”’ ([2])]
