I think it is worth pointing out that what I am trying to do here* is to establish patterns – not to reason from cause to effect. If events fit the patterns, “cause” and “effect” (for what they are worth) will be found among the events, not in these patterns. Therefore where I do deal in cause and effect, it should be in relation to events which fit (or do not fit) these patterns, not in relation to the patterns themselves.
