[Redbook1:87][19690728:1115]{Welfare
and workmanship}[28th July 1969]

(I was
called away before I could start Friday's entry, and now I cannot remember what
I wanted to write.)
Why is it
that although Man is becoming technologically more advanced, the standard of
workmanship of minor things -- washing machines, cars, electrical repairs and
so on – is declining? Is it something to
do with the economy becoming less competitive and more welfare-orientated
(unemployment benefit etc.)? I hope not,
or I shall have to rethink a lot.
