Much may depend upon when the invading cycle* arrives: the Normans arrived half-way through a 2048 year (Roman?)** cycle,*** and their effect lasted all but 1024 years.

Do we still see the effect of the Romans? Well, much more weakly than that of the Normans: although Christianity has just about seen it out.
