(6): The Devil, and A~ [continued]}[27th

Certainly
there is a devil in +Mk – the fictional persona of A~ – at times;
but in no way does he show that wilful
separation from God which is the mark of evil, and exists (I believe)
only in Man (or his extra-terrestrial equivalents, if any). A~’s
separation is forced upon him by his obedience – like that of other
Archangels – to the will of God. In him, of course, as in no
other, the Love and the Will are exactly balanced, keeping him
exactly where he is, at the furthest point of separation: as the
Adversary.
*But
+Mk does show the characteristic behaviour of the Accuser, bringing
out in one way or another the evil in Men.** This function*** of
course is peculiar*** to Men (or their equivalents), since by
definition evil as a wilful
separation from God is only within the capabilities of those who have
the potential to perceive God – those who know the difference
between good and evil.
This
is
why I doubt the existence of the Devil independent of Man.**** That
does not make the Devil any the less dangerous, of course: or any the
less real. Each of us can adopt him within ourselves, and play the
role of the Accuser for others. In this sense, the Devil is perhaps
the personification of our collective will to separate from God.

[Presumably,
the function of A~ (and +Mk) described in the previous sentence is
peculiar to Men in the sense applied by A~ (& +Mk) only to Humans
(and their extra-terrestrial equivalents, if any).]
