Earlier this evening, alone in our bedroom, I actually got down on my knees to pray for relief from a tension and frustration which I believed to be wrong but could not shake off: the first time that I have knelt to pray, outside church, for many years.
Whatever I was doing – whatever anyone may think praying to God means – it worked: not instantaneously, but very soon indeed.
