The suggestion* is that the **Life Cycle is the background; as the cycles get smaller (shorter), so they move into the foreground. (This may also define the relative strengths or influence of the ‘inside’ and ‘outside’ circles discussed above).*** For instance, if I am now entering the second Half-cycle of my life (approximately), the element is water for about the next eight years, as it was for the last [preceding] eight years, at that ‘middleground’ level or depth. I certainly dreamt, a great deal, of watery maidens during that past period, probably more than before; now, it rains a lot!

These are not, of course, elements in a chemical or even alchemical (literal) sense; they are more like the humours of earlier psychology, although not co-extensive so far as I know. It might be wise to think of them as elements of temperament: elementals, perhaps.
