The
Hebrew meaning of Ofannim, or Ophanim,* ‘wheels’, and their
adoption (presumably from Ezekiel) in Jewish tradition as one of 10
ranks of Angels (along with Cherubim and Seraphim), suggests that the
term Ophanim may be used to refer to a collective
of all the 9 Christian degrees of Angels** making up a complete wheel
– the [O], in fact, and no wonder it’s so terrifying.
