It* might not have been altogether too late* if the question had been addressed: why do revivals, however successful in the short run, always fail (ie lose the numbers they gained)** when they peter*** out some years later?
C[ircles] A[nalysis] & S[ynthesis] suggests that this has to do with a failure to turn at C and return on the i[nner] c[ircle].
In Christian terms, this can be resolved into a choice between predominance of Love and Law; and the follow-up to Revival almost invariable involves Law (ie organisation, doctrine, covenant etc.) to the virtual exclusion of Love.****
