We seem to be thinking* in terms of some sort of Independence for these (Inner) Qualities, which distinguishes them from mere emotions and other states of mind. This would not be merely that independence through Objective Reality (i.e. existence independent of the particular observer), which Innocence and Love have – but so, I think, do hatred and anger.

Similarly the independence through the Quality of Absolute Truth – that there can be no possible doubt, once such a Quality is identified, that it exists – belongs to Innocence and Love but also, I think, to hatred and anger (as emotion or state of mind, rather than as a Quality).

So what kind of Independence is it which distinguishes a Quality from an emotion or any other state of mind? I think it is Independence of Control.** It is only too easy to make oneself angry, or fill oneself with hatred, either deliberately, or accidentally as a consequence of one's own deliberate thought. It is also always possible to stop oneself being angry, and empty oneself of hatred, although not always so easy.

It is notoriously difficult to ignore Love where it has arisen. I suggest that one cannot create or directly abandon the Quality of Innocence: or Revelation, or Creation, or Diversity, or ***Evolution, or Inner Action(if I understand the concept correctly), or Harmony, or Unity, by any act or decision of self-will. These Qualities arise where they will, not where you will.****

**(or of Will?)

***[Presumably inner evolution. <20160310>]

****Certainly that is my experience of Revelation and Creation – and Love. <891001>
