[continued]

Fairy tales where the faith of the Princess (or other girl) transforms the frog (or other beast) into a handsome prince perhaps speak, from the other point of view*, of the point at which the male Knight discovers and is transformed by his female Queen. These stories can be taken literally [sic], to show the commencement of a married relationship; or psychologically (some interpretations would have the frog, or Beast, as the adolescent girl's own “male” type sexuality, to be faced and transformed); or spiritually, to demonstrate the relative roles of the male and the female aspects in every individual (male or female) at this stage of development. There is no reason why each interpretation (and possibly others) may not be valid, just because another is: the process may govern many different types of personal and institutional development.
