‘Israel and Jordan produced little of artistic merit. Their topography was full of divisions; they were constantly subject to nomadic incursions and invasions by neighbours such as the Egyptians. Their most notable achievements were in the fields of pottery making – their pots are amongst the most balanced and aesthetically pleasing of all produced in the Levant.’
