Modern human races were being formed ‘about 10,000 years ago, when all people were still hunters and gatherers who lived in bands of between 20 and 100 individuals, probably averaging close to 40’* (derived from study of contemporary hunting peoples).


The likely prohibition of incest usually necessitated exogamous** marriages, requiring a breeding group of a number of neighbouring bands*** in one geographical area containing several food-gathering territories, sharing language, customs and defence.****


All Human races originated in a single parental population about 32,000 years ago;# or (some anthropologists believe) the basic racial differences may have arisen longer ago than this.#*
