There is an interesting correspondence between the basis of the Hindu caste system, and the classes in Plato’s Republic:

The point is that in both[,] the G~ degree is suppressed – one would not of course expect G~ to be ‘inferior craftsmen’, but given the Hindu pre-occupation with the Mandala I think it is reasonable to place them there. There is, no doubt, more to the Caste system then this, as in due course I shall surely discover.
