... [under the] mounting blue haze a train from London snaked its way up the King's Cross line and into the city. On the southern footpath from the Chilterns, along the edge of the hill, I could see a figure walking towards me. Nearer than I had thought, being little more than child size, a slim figure with startlingly blonde, straight hair, cut short, and blue eyes: a young girl whom I felt sure I recognised. She sat down beside me on the edge of the Gog Magog hills: “[xS] is here.”’

I looked at her for a long time; and for a long time she gazed over Cambridge.

[…]

She turned, and smiled, and I knew that it was her, although three or four years older. "I am becoming serious! Ask."

"Ask what?"

"Whatever you wish."’

I am curious about the relationship between the 4 cardinal and the 4 diagonal degrees of the C[ircles] A[nalysis &] S[ynthesis] ‘circle’, in one respect. I have thought for some time that the diagonals tend to represent movement and the cardinals position, in relation to each other (not in any absolute sense, so far as I know). I know from experience that the cardinals are at least as strongly represented on the O[uter] C[ircle] as the diagonals, and vice versa* on the I[nner] C[ircle].**

The first attribution *** above, however, tends to contradict the second, if (as I have assumed), the O[uter] C[ircle] tends to be associated with change or movement and the I[nner] C[ircle] with position. So perhaps the last assumption is incorrect in an ‘inner’ sense: certainly although I can map outward change and decay on the O[uter] C[ircle] for myself, I was more aware[,] at the time[,] of stagnation; whereas now I am distinctly aware of rapid and fundamental changes.

Then again, against this, the pattern of circle creation (Pascal’s ∆****/doubling) would suggest that cardinals would be more noticeable on the I[nner] C[ircle] then [on] the O[uter] C[ircle].# This is not so far the case at all.

*Theodore Roszak in his review of Roger Penrose’s ‘The Emperor’s New Mind’** says of Penrose that: ‘He contends that the mind in all its higher functions remains radically mysterious. Its working is as much based upon aesthetic taste or “instantaneous judgement of inspiration” as on formal logic. Even in his own field of mathematics, Penrose believes that consensus is achieved when the individual mind “makes contact with Plato’s world of mathematical concepts”.’

This fits beautifully with many earlier C[ircles] A[nalysis &] S[ynthesis] attributions:

***

The point being that as higher Mathematicians and higher Scientists at c[irca] S~ follow the I[nner] C[ircle rotation, by C[ircles] A[nalysis &] S[ynthesis] they will be carried by**** C to r~, g~ &c. and to a greater wisdom and understanding of the A~ semicircle.#

There are, of course, still dangers of getting it wildly wrong.

I really did think there was a sufficient danger of Iraq actually invading Kuwait:* mainly because of Saddam Hussein’s personality. So it is perhaps not surprising that last night I dreamt of columns or circles of aircraft coming together and merging into one circle or column** which then set off together – I thought for the Queen Mum’s birthday.*** ****Next, 3 thin, finned rockets flew towards us: we were excited at first, then realised they were dangerous; one in fact, on landing near us, exploded with great force.

That night, of course, was the night of the invasion.*

{Scaling}[1st August 1990]

[Redbook7:184][19900801:2137c]{Scaling}[1st August 1990]

19900801.2137

[continued]

On scaling* – of what length of period is an event or process (primarily) part? – one easy clue may be provided by the period of event or process itself in relation to its apparent degree characteristics (But the identification of its degree, of course, is not always easy – due to contra-rotational,** diametric,*** and even circumferential**** resonances).

For example, a ‘G~’-type period lasting a little less than a decade seems likely to be the ‘G~’ of a 64-year cycle – and its actual dates, if we accept precise period doubling from C[ommon] E[ra] Year ‘0’, may confirm or refute that (or vice-versa – such systems are built up in blocs, not blocks.

On the other hand, an ‘M~’#[-]type period of a little over half a century is more likely to be the ‘M~’ of a 512 year cycle, and an ‘A~’ of about 500 years seems suited to be ‘A~’ of a 4,000#* year period.

These intervals are not chosen at random: a multiple of 8 seems plausibly likely to provide key periods within the general period-doubling sequence, from a kind of mathematical superstition.

The analysis as given,* however, is not directly explicable by C[ircles] A[nalysis &] S[ynthesis], which tends to describe historical developments such as (in religion) Catholicism, Evangelicism and Liberalism as process rather than status.** All religious movements – in the extreme view, all movements – start from C (and presumably, all can be seen to end at C);*** their differentiation may be describable in terms of rotational direction, radial distance, and speed – both within each cycle and between related cycles.
