{A Dream: of Classic Science}[21st July 1988]

Yesterday morning – the morning after writing the above* – I dreamt that I had discovered (and in some way had possession of) a wonderful collection of old Victorian telescopes and other scientific instruments, all very large (average height several times that of a man), with brass fittings etc., all in perfect working order in a large observatory.** This agreeable fancy, with strong echoes from my own ancestry, has obvious connections with the previous entry!***

**I think there was even something about leaving some of/one of the larger telescopes to do the job it had always done – was it as a finder?

Yesterday night I watched a TV film – quite by chance – in which such a collection appeared. No newspaper last week, so no forewarning. [<19880722>]

[There had been discussions, before moving, about acquiring a large (e.g. sixteen foot reflector) telescope and an observatory for it after moving; one was advertised for sale around that time, probably in Exchange and Mart.]
