On the whole, those indications* have not been borne out – ie have proved to be misleading.

The pattern** is far clearer in some local sequences*** than others**** – in some, such as ancient Mesopotamia, where in any case the evidence is often patchy, there are periods consisting of virtually continual inter-dynastic and inter-state warfare (This may of course fit in with a longer, larger (eg regional) pattern).#

There is some indication that both G~-type political events eg popular rebellions – and M~-type political events – eg military campaigns – are more likely to succeed in giving rise to significant change the nearer they occur to C, and less likely to succeed in giving rise to significant change the nearer they occur to A~. But this is still rather speculative, or at least pretty uncertain.**

{The Neo-Babylonian Period}[9th December 1990]

‘Neo-Babylonian period. During the half-century following the fall of Ninevah, in 612BC[E], there was a final flowering of Mesopotamian culture in southern Iraq, under the last dynasty of Babylonian kings. During the reigns of Nabopolassar (625-605BC[E]) * and his son Nebuchadnezzar II (604-562BC[E], there was widespread building activity. Temples and ziggurats were repaired or rebuilt in almost all the old dynastic cities, while Babylon itself was enormously enlarged and surrounded by a double enceinte, or line of fortification, consisting of towered and moated fortress walls. Inside the city the most grandiose effect was obtained by the disposal of public buildings along a wide Processional Way, leading through** the centre of the town to the temple and ziggurat of its patron god, Marduk.*** Where the street passed through the inner city wall, the facades of the familiar Ishtar Gate*** (Vorderasiatisches Museum, Berlin) and those facing the adjoining street were ornamented in brightly glazed brickwork, with huge figures of bulls, lions and dragons modelled in relief.’

{Guardian Bulls & Lions in Assyria}[9th December 1990]

[Redbook8:122][19901209:1525]{Guardian Bulls & Lions in Assyria}[9th December 1990]

19901209.1525

‘Portal sculptures, which many would consider the most characteristic Assyrian art form, are not statues in the round but “double aspect” reliefs (ie meant to be seen either from the front or the side), apparently derived from a Hittite invention of the 14th century BC[E]. These impressive guardian figures – usually human-headed bulls or lions* – decorate the arched gateways and are sometimes supported by others set at right[-]angles on the adjoining facades, their heads facing sideways. Each is composed from a single block of stone weighing up to 30 tons, roughly shaped in the quarry and then carved in situ.’

I speculate that:

– in C[ircles] A[nalysis] & S[ynthesis], at least as applied to human individual and collective psychology:

****

(1) C-type manifestations tend to be primary expressions of the C[ircles] A[nalysis] & S[ynthesis] pattern, emanating directly from the impulses of the pattern, These would be, for example, religious revivals; although they would not necessarily occur all at C, they would tend to be precisely located according to their precise nature.

(2) M~-type manifestations would be secondary, ie both direct and mediated (and thus distorted) into action through the Human will. Political authority and military campaigns are good examples of the M~-type. #|(The regularity would be between those of C and A~)|#

(3) A~-type manifestations would be tertiary, ie both direct & mediated, & dependent upon the actual consequences of direct expressions and mediated actions. #|Economics is the example of this.|# #*Their irregularity would be greater than that of M~, and of course of C.

(4) G~-type manifestations would (probably) be unclassifiable on this scale, since the circle here bends back towards C: they would be further than A~, but equal to M~, and returning to C. Art should be the typical and greatest example of this.
