*‘In Italy, where antique traditions were strongest, the revival began about the time of Giotto (1266-1337[ce])** and ended about the time of the death of Raphael (1520[ce]).*** In Northern Europe, on the other hand, the art of Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528[ce])**** provides the first prolonged attempt to assimilate classical models into a Northern style.
