‘A striking case of late Roman religious eclecticism is given by the emperor Alexander Severus (222-35[CE]),* who placed in his household oratory (lararium) statues of such figures as deified Emperors (only the most noble selected) and other sacred persons including the philosopher Apollonius of Tyana,** Christ, Abraham, Orpheus, and Alexander the Great.
