‘The participants in the first group exhibition of 1874[ce] included:

Claude Monet (1840-1926)
Camille Pissarro (1830-1903)
Pierre Auguste Renoir (1841-1919)
Alfred Sisley (1839-99)
Edgar Degas (1834-1917)
Paul Cézanne (1839-1906)
Berthe Morisot (1841-95)

These seven artists, along with Édouard Manet (1832-83), are generally regarded as the principal Impressionist painters. Though in their methods and techniques, Degas and Manet belong less closely to the group. The links between the artists were forged in the 1860s [ce];** Monet, Renoir, Sisley & Frédéric Bazille (1841-70[ce]) met in metin 1862[ce] in the studio of the academic artist Charles Gleyre (1808-74[ce]); Monet had met Pissarro c[irca]1860[ce], and & Cézanne first met this group c[irca] 1863[ce].

Note that all the Impressionists were born within 10 years of 64G~1840[ce]; Monet, Renoir, Cezanne (& Sisley) were born 1839-1841[ce], as was Bazille, & in 1874[ce] would therefore have been in their mid-thirties.
