I am
beginning to wonder if my view of a few days ago concerning Russian aims in the
Middle East is not over-kind to the Russians.
If the Russians won the Middle East the way to Africa would lie open
before them and Western Europe would be denied the short route to the Far East
by land, sea and air. That proves
nothing itself; but the Russians must know it too.
