[Redbook1:164][19700624:2330]{Popular
Culture}[24th June 1970]

A great many people, or the sort
who take it upon themselves to judge what they call culture, make the mistake
of assuming that something which is simple, or popular -- especially with the
wrong kind of people -- cannot have merit.
One of the most frightening
pieces of music I have ever heard, one which continues to frighten me every
time I hear it -- though I always want to listen to it again -- is Holst’s
‘Saturn’ – the Bringer of old age – from The Planets: both popular and
relatively simple, but it terrifies me.
So does the Mystic, in a completely different way.
