It’s interesting that the Shī’ī law of succession* gave much more favourable succession rights to females than did the Sunni version – interesting because of the influence** of Shī’īsm’s esoteric doctrines on Sūfism, which (with its emphasis on Love) has for a long time seemed to me to embody the ‘female’ or Left wing of Islām.
