I’ve found abstracting C[ircles] A[nalysis] & S[ynthesis] from this period of time – 1780-1850ff[ce] – in the visual arts, extraordinarily difficult. The temptation to copy the two E[ncyclopaedia of ]V[isual] A[rt] chapters in toto was almost irresistible. I suppose this has to do with the cyclical tendency to breakdown into chaos of

(a) the art cycle and

(b) my efforts to analyse the art cycle.
